The truffle
Perhaps not everyone knows that the truffle is a fungus.
That’s right—it’s a “hypogeous” fungus, meaning it lives underground, in symbiosis with plants such as oak, linden, hazel, hornbeam, and poplar.
It consists of water, fibers, and mineral salts, as well as organic substances provided by the plants mentioned above, with which it lives in symbiosis.
It takes on different shapes depending on the type of soil in which it grows; soft soil favors the growth of a spherical truffle, while hard soil favors the growth of a lumpy truffle.
